Get better, Grandma

Yesterday, a few hours after I finished my bus ride home from Forward, my brother called me. Grandma had been on her treadmill and had falled off, shattering her right shoulder. She spent the next two hours getting to the phone to call someone.

Today, I called my uncle and talked to him for a few minutes while they brought me up to speed. This morning, Grandma’s right shoulder joint was replaced entirely and she seems to be doing pretty well. She’s awake and not in pain and she’s expected to make a good recovery, but it’s going to take some time. She’s not 29 anymore. Actually, if you ask her, she’ll tell you she is. But, still, the greatest positive influence I ever had, the role model I had my entire life, the most consistent parent I’ve ever known, has been my grandmother.

I was so shocked and pained to hear what she went through. She’s an amazing lady—a shining star of wisdom in a world heading in the opposite direction—and I hope she recovers with superhuman speed and a grace of which only she is capable.

Get better soon, Grandma. You’re in my thoughts.

Your grandma is an awesome and powerfully present woman. I have little doubt that she’ll pull through it better than before, and that she’ll be lifting tractors with her new bionic shoulder by the end of the year!

From the way Apollo boasts about his grandmother’s greatness, her strength and determination (two hours to get to the phone), there is no doubt she can recover. She is an admirable woman, who deserves the respect and love of everyone. She has my best wishes.
