Milwaukee, Day Three

I think I woke up around noon, after gabbing with Nate and Brenda until small hours. I decided it would be neat to take some pictures of various things in Milwaukee and sort of get the tour of the area. We headed out about four o’clock, having sucked down some food at Comet Coffee Shop. We toured around by the lake, downtown Milwaukee, the Miller Brewery, and the river.

Afterwards, we came back to Nate’s place and chilled out, while Nate himself demonstrated what some practice, some vinyl, and a pair of turntables gets you. He spun an awesome set of deep house that had me begging for more. Kudos on the deckskillz, Nate!

A tofu burger at Beans and Barley was welcome and yummy and we finally ended up back at Nate’s house about 8:30ish. Somehow, we ended up talking about programming and music and Nate looked at his watch and said, “Jesus. It’s 11.” It felt like 9, so we woke Brenda up and headed for Vertigo.

Vertigo had, literally, three people on the fucking incensing corrugated steel dancefloor. The music wasn’t too bad—very uptempo trance at a very high decibel level. After a bit, the three of us decided to check out some other venue, ending up back at Nate’s place. More conversation about music, programming, and various other topics and suddenly Dylan opened the door, along with his coworker, Tracy, an extraordinarily scary bartender with a very east coast twang. Scary.

When all was said and done, she split and it was time for everyone to shnooze. The Milwaukee tour was fun and I actually am having a good time. It’s a nice city, albeit a bit more conservative than San Francisco. People are happy and shiny and pretty here.
