Fives Galore

It all lined up for me today. At about 18:44 this evening, I passed mile 2500 this year. That brings me half-way to my goal of 5000 miles. Of course, this would only be right on May 5, 2005 (05-05-05). After driving to work this morning after I woke up late, due to breaking my annual fast in memory of my sister, I zipped home as quickly as I could to close out the first half of my year.

It was breezy, but after an entire day forecast with rain, the sun peeked out and began to shine. It wasn’t terribly warm, but it was warm enough to leave the road-rashed cycling shell on the floor. I headed out at 18:30 on my usual post-work jaunt. The wind was blustery and I was sluggish in the first part of the ride, until I started to realize that, if I didn’t pull my head out of my butthole, I was going to end up with a pitifully lame entry in my daily log. I squeezed it all back together and pushed it.

It was right here where I finished my 2500th mile this year. Just because I’ve done half my goal miles this year doesn’t mean I get to slack off if I finish the whole shebang early. It just means I’ll have room on my calendar for lots more miles. After all, I’ve got a hard tour coming up next May. I’d better be ready for it.

Today:   28.57 mi;   1:30:15 (19.0 mph avg; 33.5 mph max) May  :   87.45 mi;   4:35:20 (19.1 mph avg; 34.0 mph max)
2005 : 2518.12 mi; 135:30:24 (18.6 mph avg; 45.0 mph max)
Goal : 5000.00 mi (2481.88 mi to go : 50.36% complete)
